Side-scan sonar in the Gulf of Cambay drew geometric patterns on the seabed, and dredges brought up pottery, worked stone, and wood that one lab dated past nine thousand years, which would make it older than any known city. Whether the forms are streets or the tricks of a fierce-tided gulf is argued hard among archaeologists. The water is deep, the current brutal, and the question wide open.
