The opal capital of the world is a moonscape of spoil heaps, and a century of hurried miners did not pick them clean. Noodling, turning the heaps by hand for what the dig crews missed, is open to anyone at the public ground in town. No machine, no shaft, no licence. Just patience, a sieve, and the heaps' long memory for what was overlooked.
